ASL

American Sign Language. Probably my favorite class this semester and I'm actually kind of rocking it. Our prof is awesome. And the school is awesome because they want a fuller experience to help learn the language so since our first day of class, not a word has been spoken in the room. Everything has been signed. It's helped a ton and I love it. I might consider being an intrepter because it's one of the coolest things ever. It'd take a lot more work, but I'm enjoying it so it couldn't be too horrible. Maybe that will be my thing I do once I have real job and no home work....we'll see.

Anyways. Our prof suggested we watch a couple videos online just to see more signing. This one was probably my favorite. And even without the song in the back, I can understand some of it!

And this one just has some interesting info accompanying the song...very sad indeed.

weight of the nation

No. This is not about the election. Please keep reading. :)

I'm taking Health Psychology this semester and we just spent about 6 days watching this HBO documentary, "The Weight of the Nation." Being a nutrition minor, I found it particularly interesting and well worth sharing. It is a very long series, but conveniently divided into different sections. I encourage you to take a look. Even if it's just one section at a time.

Obesity really is an issue in our nation. I'm pretty sure Colorado is still ranked as the skinniest state, but we still have absurd amounts of obesity so it's still not something to be proud of. Now this documentary hates a lot on the fast food industry. I still like a good old dollar menu snack every once in a while, so I think it is important to realize that your diet can still have treats. And a diet should never be like a thing you do once in a while, it should be a lifestyle. In nutrition we learned that most major "fad" diets like to take out a specific food group. There's a reason why there are food groups and that's because your body needs a little bit of everything. Part of the reason the diets hardly ever work is because as soon as you quit the diet and re-introduce a food group, you  put the weight back on. The main thing to remember in your daily diet is moderation. Be aware of how much you're eating and why. Second, exercise. But neither of these alone will make a significant difference. They work together to make a difference or maintain a healthy weight. Routine is a blessing when it comes to exercise and this semester has been horrible for me. Without a buddy or a regular schedule, I have been horrible at making it to the gym. I encourage you to find different ways to exercise. A simple walk, a yoga class, a quick swim, maybe even a zumba class. Working out can still be fun and I'm a huge fan of group fitness classes. Even if you don't know anyone, it's way more fun that just running on the treadmill by yourself.

So that was my rant...I hope you will consider watching this movie to see more. It's very interesting and informative and I loved it. It makes me want to be that weird yoga person who only eats organic or local farmer's produce. :)

So here ya go.

Oh. And this was made summer 2012, so it's very up-to-date.

old, boring, seniors

So Friday night, Man-Cub, the roommate, and myself were at a loss of what to do. After going to an early dinner, we learned that being seniors doesn't make everything as interesting as it does when you're freshman. We didn't feel like going out, especially because it was only about 7, and we didn't want to pay for anything. So after a couple of hours of sitting and trying to be creative, we went to get the ingredients for white russians and we came home to watch some lame late night tv until we all fell asleep.

That being said, we had high hopes that Saturday would be much better. And it totally was! No, we didn't find some awesome party or play gator golf in the dorm hallways... The roommate and his gf made some delicious dinner specialties. We had wonderful tacos with some home-made guac followed by a delicious pumpkin cookie roll thing that didn't bake quite as desired, but was still delish. I could have eaten the entire pan. Then, with the plan on starting the Harry Potter movies, they made some cool butter-beers and chocolate frogs!

The plate is messy because we couldn't the frogs to stop jumping... ;)

We had also bought a new board-game for the evening so we decided to try it out before starting our movie.

This was probably the best purchase we've made in a while. A super awesome trivia game that had some great categories with difficult questions, but still stuff we knew! Now, did we make it to our Harry Potter movie with our awesome snacks? Well, no. But we did sit around the table for at least 3 hours playing our awesome new game!

While it might not have been a big night out with lots of adventures, it was just what we wanted! I love our little family. :)

the little things

Whoa. It's been a while. The lack of good internet at my house hasn't been the best thing, so I apologize. I'll try to be brief.

For starters, there are only about 44 days left before graduation. That's including weekends and holidays, so woohoo!!! Disney, we're on our way!! In the meantime, I'm trying to stay focused on school and the job hunt, enjoying the few weekends we have left to hang out in Fort Collins. So enjoy these pictures. :)

This is our favorite hang out spot these days.

Man-Cub and Chill are still fighting. (But at least it looks like they're having fun.)

The leaves changed and my wonderful state looked gorgeous.

With the fall came some yummy Octoberfest drinks! And Man-Cub and I found a sweet pizza place with cheap beer!

It snowed and ruined all the leaves, but brought joy to my heart with the beautiful peaks and being able to pull out all my hats and scarves again! I love the chilly evenings!

Chill has been about as lazy as us and with all our lazy Sundays, I was officially tested on the NFL teams so learned I needed to study.

Man-Cub has some business stuff during parents weekend so I got to see his business school and got a sweet t-shirt.

We had a friend who is a dance major and was dancing with her friends in the CSU drag show, so we went. It was an interesting experience, but enjoyable.

I attended the fall job fair and actually ended up getting an interview that I had yesterday. I was interviewed by 4 people in 2 hours. I still have a lot of deciding to do.

Really, I've just been realizing that I'm growing up, and am trying to appreciate the little things amidst the chaos...like these mountains that hold my heart.
And the holidays that are approaching which Fort Collins is taking full advantage of!
And my sister sent me this while she was passing through at home and made me incredibly home-sick. This is my favorite mountain ever.
